Compelled by the love of Jesus, The Suubi Project was founded by Gary and Cheryl Sargent.
During the process of adopting three children from Uganda, the Lord put a desire on Gary and Cheryl’s hearts to “do more”. Being compelled by the love of Jesus to care for orphans, vulnerable children, widows and the poor as God commands in Scripture, Gary and Cheryl began prayerfully seeking the Lord’s direction on how they could accomplish that mission.
The Lord gave the Sargent’s a vision for a project that would serve the people in Uganda by meeting practical needs while sharing the love of Jesus. A desire to restore hope and change lives for Christ was born with the goal of teaching Biblical truths while working to equip and empower people with skills needed to provide for themselves and their families. Our prayer is that each person impacted by this work would have an effective impact on the future of Uganda.
And so began the incredible journey…
In 2010, The Suubi Project was formed and land was purchased in Luweero District, Uganda. The Suubi Primary School and Suubi Community Church were built to minister to impoverished people. These had an immediate impact on the community. Children, who have never been to school before, are attending school through the sponsorship program and the church is faithfully ministering to the people in the surrounding villages by teaching the Word of God and meeting practical needs. Many people have come to know Jesus as Savior and their lives have been changed for eternity. Glory to God alone!
